High Technology Computer Crime Task Force, May 30, 2007

Akron, OH - As the sophistication of computer technology escalates, so does the challenge for law enforcement to keep up with the complexities of investigating high technology and computer-related crime. This is why the Akron Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office have formed a new unit dedicated to this endeavor.

The Akron-Summit High Technology Computer Crime Task Force (HTCCT) is a collaborative effort of the Akron Police Department Computer Forensics Unit and the County Sheriff’s detective bureau formed March 23, 1998. Its role is to focus on this emerging field of law enforcement with investigative techniques that keep pace with ever changing cyber technology.

HTCCT will investigate and prepare for prosecution all computer-related crimes. Its mission is also to provide computer and high-technology forensic laboratory capabilities, and serve as a high tech resource for law enforcement agencies. Today, this task force has grown to include agents from the FBI, local law enforcement managers and officers, prosecutors, and security professionals.

The High Technology Computer Crime Task Force works closely with law enforcement agencies and organizations to increase awareness of the key role the cyber investigator plays in all aspects of cyber crime. Our task force will provide speakers and trainers on cyber crime, cyber awareness and cyber investigation
