What fees must an applicant pay for acquiring a patent?

For the protection of intellectual property, a patent lawyer will advise his clients of the different types of fees associated with patent acquisition:

(1) $690 upon filing an application for an original patent (except in plant or design cases);

(2) on presentation or filing at another time, $78 per claim in independent form which is

greater than 3, $18 per claim (dependent or independent) which is greater than 20, and $260 per application with a multiple dependent claim;

(3) $150 upon filing a provisional application for an original patent;

(4) $1210 on issuing a reissue or original patent (except in plant or design cases);

(5) $310 upon filing a design application and $480 upon filing a plant application; and

(6) $580 on issuing a plant patent and $430 on issuing a design patent.
