What should I do to make sure no one else has beat me to obtaining a patent for an invention I am working on?
Prior to building my current Instant FudgeMaker Machine, I did extensive research to be sure no similar products have ever been patented. However, I’ve begun wondering if any others might still be under consideration by the U.S. Patent Office. What should I do to make sure no one else has beat me to obtaining this type of patent?

To be completely sure that you’re not just spinning your wheels and wasting valuable time in this pursuit, it’s highly recommended that you contact an intellectual law attorney who is already skilled at performing this type of research on a regular basis. You might also want to consider any possible changes to your current design that might actually enhance it further in an effort to distinguish it from any other competitors.
Obtaining a patent is far more complicated than obtaining a copyright for most written materials. It’s really best to leave it to an expert. Otherwise, you might face extensive litigation in the future when another inventor you failed to discover through your own research claims you stole his or her design.
