Trademark Websites

Generally, it is not possible to trademark websites as a whole, though it is possible to trademark specific items that appear on a website. Examples of items that may be trademarked on websites include photos, graphics, logos, slogans, company names, and even website names. In order for something to be officially trademarked, a trademark application must be filled out and submitted to the U.S. Trademark Office, and a filing fee must be paid. There are a variety of services available online to guide a user through the trademark application process, though anyone attempting to use a trademark website should make sure that the company offering the service is legitimate. A fee is usually required when using the services offered by a trademark website, in addition to the standard trademark filing fee. Once approved, a trademark will give extra protection against illegal theft or misappropriation of trademarked items, allowing a trademark holder to pursue legal action if necessary to protect the trademark.
