Tracking Internet Usage

Many businesses as well as private individuals often track Internet usage. In the corporate world, employers may track the Internet usage of their employees in order to monitor how they use the Internet while on the job. This is often done in order to guard against the many risks associated with online activity, such as computer viruses and data loss or system failures. Employers may also monitor Internet usage in order to ensure that their employees are not wasting valuable work time on personal online business. System administrators who have access to employee computers routinely track Internet usage, and they generally have the right to do so. Court decisions have usually favored employers when it comes to tracking Internet usage, and employees should not assume what they do on work computers is private. Tracking Internet usage is also common among private individuals as well. Parents may track their children's Internet usage using snooping software to ensure their safety online. Spouses may even hide programs on their mate's computers for tracking Internet usage in order to spy on their online activity.
