Online Trademark

Businesses who operate online often trademark certain items in order to protect their web presence. Logos, images, slogans, website names, and other unique items are routinely trademarked, allowing the trademark holder the exclusive right to use the trademarked item in order to identify their business online. Trademark holders are protected by law against trademark infringement, and are legally protected against the misuse of their registered marks by third parties. In order to apply for a trademark, an online trademark search should first be completed. The website of The United States Patent and Trademark Office contains a searchable database of completed and pending trademark applications, allowing potential applicants to conduct an online trademark search. The search will identify whether any similar marks that have already been trademarked which may lead to an application being denied. Many companies also exist who will help an applicant through the trademark process for a fee. These fees are in addition to the application fee charged by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
