Online Copyright Registration

Online copyright registration is often sought out by those who wish to add extra protection to their creative works. Online copyright registration can be used to copyright a wide variety of items, such as articles, novels, poems, plays, images and photographs. The United States Copyright Office offers online copyright registration at a discounted price, though the process may take up to six months to complete. A free and less restrictive alternative is obtaining a Creative Commons copyright license. Many content producers choose to use Creative Commons licenses due to the flexibility of the licenses and the ease in obtaining them. A common misconception regarding online copyrights is that a work is not copyrighted unless a copyright symbol is present. In actuality, most works are copyrighted whether they have been officially registered or not. According to the Berne copyright convention, any original work created after April 1, 1989 is automatically copyrighted.
