Internet Usage Laws

Because of the magnitude and complexity of the world wide web, Internet usage laws are often vague and confusing, and can differ greatly depending on location, as well as other factors. Internet usage laws exist to regulate and protect copyrighted works; specific laws also regulate online gambling and pornography. Downloading illegal pornographic content, such as content featuring underage persons, may result in legal prosecution under Internet usage laws. Additionally, cyber crimes such as hacking are also illegal under Internet usage laws. Companies or other organizations may have their own specific Internet usage laws; often employers have specific regulations regarding the use of Internet services by employees. Employers may legally block or restrict access to certain online applications, or in some cases Internet use may be completely disallowed while on the job. Privately, a person may use the Internet and all available applications in any way that is legal under the law, however laws vary greatly. In some countries, governments strictly monitor and control Internet usage, while other countries have more web freedom.
