Internet Laws

Internet laws in the United States cover a wide range of topics related to the Internet and technology, such as cybercrime, software regulations, privacy, copyright and trademark infringement, and laws regulating online gambling and adult content. Internet laws are created and regulated by both state and federal authorities, and new laws continue to be implemented to meet new challenges as the world wide web continues to change and evolve. Most states, though not all, have laws related to Internet filtering on public school or library computers. State Internet filtering laws mandate Internet use policies that prevent children using public computers from accessing harmful or obscene material. Federal Internet laws include The Child Online Protection Act, which requires websites to verify proof of legal age before allowing users access to sexually explicit materials, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which sets guidelines for the the use and protection of copyrighted works online.
