Internet Law

Because the Internet is an entirely new and unique entity, judges and lawmakers often do not have historical legal traditions to fall back on when creating and making decisions regarding Internet law. Preexisting legal decisions often do not exist or do not apply to issues related to the Internet, making Internet law a complicated and ever changing field. Because of the often confusing nature of the many laws related to the Internet, attorneys who specialize in topics related to Internet law are routinely consulted to resolve a host of issues, from software licensing to cybercrimes such as auction fraud or email scams. Copyright and trademark infringement are two of the most commonly debated legal areas in relation to the world wide web, and infringement claims have increased greatly in recent years. Illegally downloading, uploading, and sharing copyrighted items online, such as movies and music, is commonplace on the Internet, and web users are constantly finding new ways to subvert the laws of cyberspace.
