Internet Copyright Violations

Internet copyright violations occur when copyrighted material, such as digital images or other forms of electronic media, are used in a way that violates the rights of the copyright owner. Unauthorized use of copyrighted material is often referred to as "piracy," especially when dealing with audio visual media such as music and movies. Internet copyright violations can include downloading and sharing mp3 files of recorded music, or using text or images without authorization from the copyright holder. Often Internet servers that enable Internet copyright violations, such as mp3 file sharing servers, are based in countries where copyright laws are less strict, allowing users all over the world to download pirated material. Internet copyright violations are often considered acts of theft, and those who have had copyrighted material misappropriated or unlawfully used may be able to pursue legal action to stop the violation. A monetary penalty may also be assessed for unlawful Internet copyright violations.
