Intellectual Property And The Internet

Intellectual property and the Internet is an ever growing and ever changing concept. The world wide web has made it easier to obtain information, which in turn has made it easier to copy information. As the web continues to grow, new and different forms of intellectual property rights continue to be created and adapted to protect against intellectual property theft in cyberspace. The anonymity of the Internet also adds difficulties when attempting to regulate or enforce intellectual property laws. It is not always clear who is liable when it comes to copyright infringement and other intellectual property disputes. The World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO, is a specialized agency of the United Nations whose goal is to promote and help protect intellectual property worldwide. The WIPO was established in 1967, and as of 2009 there were 184 member states associated with the WIPO. The goals of the WIPO continue to be updated and revised in order to meet the intellectual property challenges of the 21st century in relation to Internet technology.
