Information Technology Law

Information technology law is also commonly known as IT law. Information technology law covers a wide variety of topics related to digital technology, such as e-commerce, computer software, Internet access, and privacy and security issues. Technological advancements have led to new legal areas which require new laws and experts to interpret those laws, which continue to evolve along with technology. The rise of e-commerce online has also led to a new set of crimes, often referred to as cybercrimes, which are carried out by perpetrators online. Internet auction and e-commerce fraud, online scams, and online identity theft are examples of cybercrimes. The government agencies of different countries create and enforce information technology law, which often differs greatly depending on location. Attorneys specializing in information technology law are often employed to assist with legal issues relating to information technology, such as software licensing, data protection, online intellectual property disputes, and website development.
