Electronic Trademark

Trademarks are often sought out and obtained by those who wish to protect their unique intellectual property online. Trademarks are routinely obtained by businesses in order to protect and strengthen their business identity. Logos, slogans, graphics, and other items associated with commerce are routinely trademarked in oder to officially brand a business and avoid copycat competition. The growth of e-commerce has led to an increase of online trademarks for web based businesses. An electronic trademark used online is just as valid as any other kind of trademark, as long as it has been officially registered. Trademarks may be applied for with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, however before submitting an application an electronic trademark search should be conducted to determine whether the desired mark is not already trademarked. The US Patent and Trademark Office maintains a database of current and pending trademark applications, allowing applicants to conduct an electronic trademark search online.
