Electronic Signatures Law

As the Internet is used more and more for business transactions and other legal purposes, one of the many new issues of the digital age is the increasing use of contracts and other documents with electronic signatures. Law makers on both local and federal levels as well as other organizations and governing bodies have all had a hand in creating and implementing standards relating to electronic signatures law. On a federal level, the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, also known as the E-Sign Act, and the Uniform Electronic Transmissions Act, or UETA, both spell out specific rules and regulations regarding electronic signatures. These federal laws give validity to electronic signatures, making contracts with electronic signatures just as valid as hard copy contracts signed by hand. They also specify the types of electronic signatures that can be legally used and how to use them. The Uniform Electronic Transmissions Act has also been essential in creating consistency in electronic signature law, setting specific standards that have been adopted by almost every state in the US.
