Electronic Contract Law

Legal contracts do not always have to be physically signed forms in order to be valid. In the age of the Internet, electronic contracts have become increasingly common, and new laws have been created to protect and outline the rights and responsibilities of those who enter into electronic contracts. Electronic contract law is governed by both federal and state laws. Both the The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act and the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, also known as the E-Sign Act, provide legal validity for electronic contracts. Electronic contracts may be used for online goods and services, and are often used by website development companies. electronic contract law also applies to agreements referred to as "click wrap agreements." Click wrap agreements usually require web users to click a box in order to accept the terms of use for a particular website, software application, online purchase. Clicking the box to accept the terms acts as a type of digital signature.
