Copyright Laws On Internet

The advent of the world wide web has has a significant effect on existing copyright laws. On Internet websites, copyrighted items often appear without notation labeling them as copyrighted, leaving many inexperienced web browsers to assume that if there is no copyright label, then an item is not copyrighted. In actuality, the Berne copyright convention, which was implemented in the United States in 1989, states that any original content created after April 1, 1989 is protected and copyrighted, regardless of whether a copyright notice is visibly present. Web users who attempt to unlawfully use copyrighted material may be subject to legal action. Because of the confusing nature of copyright laws on the Internet, it is generally best to contact the copyright holder directly with any questions regarding use of a copyrighted work. Fair use laws may apply on the Internet, allowing a third party to quote a copyrighted work with proper attribution.
