Copyright infringement on the Internet is a common occurrence, however copyright holders have rights and protections which allow them to fight against unlawful copyright infringement. Examples of copyright infringement on Internet websites include the unauthorized use of copyrighted logos, graphics, photos, text, or other copyrighted items. In some cases, a third party may attempt to use copyrighted material on their website without proper attribution, causing visitors to the website to possibly conclude that the website is affiliated with the original copyright holder. In many cases, a copyright holder will attempt to stop the infringement by having an attorney send a cease and desist letter to both the infringer, as well as the ISP that hosts the website. The infringing material is usually removed from after a cease and desist letter is sent, however this is not always the case. Further legal action may sometimes need to be taken to successfully remove infringing material.
