Copyright And Internet

Violations of copyright and Internet piracy are two of the most debated issues concerning the rights of web users. Copyright holders as well as corporations and organizations such as the Recording Industry Association of America continue to lobby for tougher rules and regulations for online copyright infringement. Anti-piracy groups were essential in negotiating many of the provisions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, or DMCA. Among the most controversial provision in the DMCA involved anti-circumvention measures that restrict or limit how consumers may access copyrighted content. Opponents of the DMCA argue that many of the provisions and restrictions take away the rights of consumers and go too far in attempting to control how people enjoy their media. Groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, part of a larger movement referred to as the Free Culture Movement, have continued to battle against powerful copyright holders who seek to limit and control how people use the web and other digital services with regard to copyright and Internet activity.
