Computer Internet Law

Specific rules and regulations exist which specify what a person may legally do when using the Internet from their computer. Internet law is still in its infancy, therefore some laws are less clear than others and there is still much debate among lawmakers as well as the public at large regarding online activity. Also, depending on the location of the person using a computer, Internet law may differ. In the United States, both federal and state laws criminalize the distribution of pornographic content depicting persons under the age of eighteen on the Internet Cyber crimes such as hacking, online identity theft, and creating computer viruses and other malicious programs are also illegal for anyone using a computer in the United States. The issue of copyright violations is a less clearly defined area of Internet law. The rise of file sharing programs and the dissemination of mp3 music files on the Internet has led to much debate as to what constitutes a copyright violation online.
