Patent Infringement Microsoft Ordered To Pay Alcatel $1.5 Billion

A huge judgment against Microsoft was decided by a federal jury. The amount of 1.5 billion dollars was awarded to Alcatel_Lucent for patent-infringement related to the conversion of audio into MP3 files for PCs. The Patent Infringement Lawyers for the telecom equipment maker called it one of the largest judgements ever. Microsoft’s Patent Lawyers believe the verdict is unsupported by the facts. They believe that the technology was properly licensed from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a German research company, for $16 million.
